This proves that despite regime’s heavy propaganda, many Iraqis had a true image of Iran in their mind. However, some members of this group were actually Iraqi captives who decided to change sides. Many members of Badr were members of Iraqi forces at first. Dr. Ahmad Abd Al-Rahman is a good example who was a medic in Iraq’s army. In ‘Crossing the Last Trench’, he narrates his memories of the war. In this book, Dr. Abd Al-Rahman explains his concerns toward the Islamic societies being united and help the oppressed people of Palestine. He also mentions how he disagreed the incidents during the war and all these had made him uncertain to work for Saddam’s army. He illustrates many details about the condition of Iraq’s army, from the beginning of their attack and initiating the war and gaining victories to the defeats that came one after another and the liberation of Khorramshahr by Iranians. The interesting point is that at the end of the book, Abd Al-Rahman explains his captivity period in Iran in such a way that a reader may conclude that Abd-al-Rahman's time in prison was his freedom from the oppression in Iraq under the rule of Saddam.Among the different books published in Iran that are based on memoirs of the warriors, this book is a distinctive one as it describes the beliefs and attitudes of both sides during the war.
